Meet Cate
Let me introduce myself. My name is Cate Clement, and I founded College Guidance in 2000 to provide one-on-one personalized college counseling to students and their families. With over thirty-four years of experience as an independent educational consultant, college admissions counselor, college career counselor, and high school counselor, I have spent my entire career in education working with teens and college-age students.
I am an expert at the college search and selection process, and I pride myself on providing individual and personal college guidance services to match students’ personal and academic interests. I have a passion for working with students of all academic levels and interests. From students with learning differences to students who are gifted, from the aspiring actress to the Division 1 athletic recruit, from the student who is reluctantly considering college to the one who has been ready to go for two years, I cherish all of my students and work steadfastly to match them with schools that they can call home. Holding a master’s degree in counseling, I take the time to listen to each student’s interests and concerns, and I am determined to make the college admissions journey student focused.
In my role as a college admissions counselor, I have interviewed hundreds of prospective students and have served as an active member of the admissions committee, reviewing applications from students across the United States. This experience provided me with unique first-hand knowledge of the college admissions selection process.
As a college career counselor, I have helped students with their career planning and placement concerns and have became a skilled interpreter of the Strong Interest Inventory. I also am highly skilled in interviewing techniques, resume preparation, and job search strategies.
As a high school counselor for many years, I developed a reputation as the “go to” college admissions expert. I provided college and career counseling to students individually and in groups on college selection, college visits, standardized testing, college essay topics, and financial aid. I hosted and developed relationships with admissions representatives from colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and abroad and never hesitated to contact the representatives to advocate on a student’s behalf. Having served on both sides of the admissions desk, I now draw on over thirty-four years of experience for my students and their families.
In an ongoing quest to provide the most current information possible, I have visited hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and abroad. These visits have allowed me to develop close relationships with college admissions representatives and to witness each school’s unique academic and social environment.
Deeply committed to ongoing professional development, I am a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), and New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC). I adhere to the highest ethical standards of these professional organizations.
When I am not helping my students or visiting college campuses, I enjoy traveling, home decorating, and spending time with my family.
My degrees include a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rhode Island (1982) and a Masters in Counselor Education from the University of Maine (1989).
